Diamond to mental dilemma

I am a hardcore diamond lover (have been since game launched and made a few topics on it) and now afer the nerf i feel like it is reaaallly weak now. it takes me twice the time to kill bosses, yes the defense is really nice and I hardly die EVER. but still it takes too long to do anything now.

Should I go back to mental? or should I wait for the changes to be slightly reverted? (or maybe someone will find a new nice viable build)


What I'd like to see in the visual update of Emma

On the forum recently a lot of rumors about the new costume and the visual update of Emma Frost. I do not know what he is what he is will represent, but made a list of changes that I would like to see.

Face
I did not find a suitable model in the comics, as each artist draws on her own. Therefore, the basis for the face I see here it's a figure, that looks a bit like Margot Robbie)))

Costumes:
I do not know what kind of costumes will receive a visual update (can be everything that would be cool) but chose to review the ones that definitely need to changes.

Modern
Externally, based on the astonishing costume, does not need a large revisions. The only thing - to make the top a little bit shorter and making it deepen, tense on the diaphragm.

New X-Men
In New X-Men be sure to add a coat(not jacket), which she wore in the series. It can be done in the main costume, and a costume without a cloak to make variant or vice versa. It is also worth noting that coat is diverges into two parts in the middle and has acutate edge. You also need to add a knee in the form of an "X," and that is not unimportant - to make shoes on a high platform.

Emma Frost Bugs and Improvement Suggestions

So I sent a PM to @MichaelMayhem a couple weeks ago with some issues that Emma currently has as well as some suggestions for changes that I (and several others I know) would like to see. I ran these by @Nootteryouknow because he has been a long time player of Emma and shared the same play style as me, so I wanted to make sure to get his input as well. I feel like Emma's review missed the mark on a few things, and she is left in an unfinished state.

I wasn't originally going to post this, but I figured I may as well. I haven't heard any response (didn't really expect to honestly), and at this point I expect to never hear one at all. So I thought I would share this at least in case anyone else was interested or had other ideas/suggestions to add to the list. This isn't an all encompassing list, as it was mainly targeted at improving Diamond and Hybrid play, with minor changes that would affect and possibly improve Mental. There are also other bugs I did not list, such as Emma's Deflect bug in Diamond, as well as her permanent transferable Constitution aura.

Hello Michael. I know you guys are pretty busy but I was hoping to spend a couple moments to bring up some suggestions and minor issues for Emma Frost. I know at this point you are probably sick of Emma and hearing about her, but there are still some issues left that haven't been addressed and she doesn't quite feel finished.

Also, with the last round of adjustments she had, her Diamond feels like it is basically in almost the same state as it was before her review which is disheartening. I don't know what the numbers show on your end, but my kill times have increased pretty significantly while testing and playing her. And I feel like I have less AoE, and even less build options than before as well. Overall she just doesn't feel as satisfying to play. Of course I'm speaking as someone who played her as a true Hybrid, not just Mental or just Diamond.

I feel like before her review, Hybrid or Diamond Emma already had pretty high survivability to begin with. After the review this got increased even more, and I feel like it is a little unnecessary to have so much extra Defense tossed in her kit when she didn't really need it. I have been discussing this with others, and I have been collaborating with @Nootteryouknow to put together a list of suggested tweaks and changes, as well as bugs and issues currently affecting her.

I hope you will take this feedback in to consideration. The reason I am sending you a message instead of posting on the forum is because I don't want to go down the "us vs. them" road again, in terms of people fighting within the community and fighting against changes (when they even admit they don't play a certain spec and that change doesn't affect them at all), etc. I have just been frustrated lately because I feel like my feedback has gone unnoticed or unheard, and I was hoping to reach out to you. Or at least hoping maybe you could answer a couple things that have been highly requested so we know where you stand in terms of "this can be done" or "this will never be done" so we can move on and stop trying to push for changes that will never come to pass.

Part of the suggestions revolve around cutting out some of her really strong defensive steroids and all of the free passive Defense and damage reduction she has in her kit in favor of some more damage. Also part revolves around trying to open up more build and play options. I absolutely loved playing Emma as a hybrid before and utilizing her full kit. I always felt as a telepath she should use those abilities to control the battlefield and not strictly for combat. And then if she wanted to truly bring the pain, shift to Diamond and take the gloves off.

I'm not looking to make Emma the next Rogue. I would like her to be competitive, but what I am mostly looking for is to improve her game play experience so that she feels more satisfying to play, and feels more like the hero I love.

Anyway, ideas:

Diamond Heart

It used to be just a defensive reset button and minor steroid. Now it is necessary to use on every cooldown for the 50% defense buff for damage. This should go back to a non-mandatory usage and be reserved for emergency situations (or at least give the player a choice of when to use it), not a "forced to use on every cooldown". Also some players have expressed some spirit issues with Diamond builds, so maybe a little can be tacked on here.

  • Remove the 50% defense boost
  • Add "Restores 15% maximum spirit"
  • Add "Doubles Diamond Armor regeneration for 10s"
  • Fix the cooldown bug with Diamond Heart not properly showing a cooldown if Diamond Mind is activated first. If you activate Diamond Heart, both Diamond Heart and Diamond Mind will show a proper cooldown. If you activate Diamond Mind, Diamond Mind will show a cooldown but Diamond Heart will just be greyed out with no cooldown displayed and thus leaving yourself to guess when it will be available again.

Passive Damage Reduction

I honestly feel like it isn't necessary at this point, as it only handicaps her damage because her survivability from her kit alone is already pretty high. It throws off the uniformity of melee all having 8% reduction, but seeing as it is only 4% now it may as well just get removed all together.

  • Remove the 4% damage reduction.

Psychic Domination

Currently it is still a better option to carry a Commanding Aura minion around with you, and if you want the best kill or survival time you are still shackled to your minion (especially with Inspire Minion damage). Compensate by adding in an attack speed increase as well so that not carrying around a minion doesn't have as big of an impact as it does now.

  • Add a 10% Attack Speed bonus if you do not control a minion.

  • Show the minionless buff in your buff bar so people are aware it is actually there. Currently it's hard to tell if you even have it. Magik has a buff icon when she sacrifices her minion to Dark Pact. Perhaps that could be looked at to do something similar for Emma's Psychic Domination?

Unlock Potential

Part of Emma's abilities include unlocking hidden power or potential in others. In its current form, Unlock Potential doesn't really capture that flavor for Emma. It would be nice to have a high impact support power that truly feels like you are unlocking potential in your allies, and something that is a viable alternative to Inspire Minion.

  • Remove the Concealed buff. This is an absolute must as it is counterproductive to melee in every way, especially with Force of Will passive damage being dependent on mobs targeting you. If nothing else, please remove this. It has been HIGHLY requested.
  • Increase the initial damage packet to match that of Inspire Minion
  • Remove 5% damage bonus to Emma's powers if the following can be added:
  • Add 10% damage buff to you and all allies in the area.
  • Remove damage over time component. It's ugly. Burst on activation and 10% damage increase should make up for removing this, along with:
  • Grant 10% attack speed from Psychic Domination to nearby allies (if you do not have a minion). Hey, you are now a commanding minion yourself!

I'm not sure how you feel about giving damage to others, but it feels more proper for what this power should do (flavor wise). Maybe giving attack speed as well is a bit much. If possible Concealed should go at the very least. Initial damage packet damage increase (while removing the damage over time component), and maybe 10% to your own powers if empowering allies cannot be done (for balance reasons, and I recognize empowering may also make her a MUST HAVE hero for raids which would also be undesirable)? Empowering is absolutely an Emma thing, and it would be nice to at least see on her Ultimate if it cannot be added here. Perhaps even an increased cooldown in exchange for an empower of sorts?

Show Off and Astral Whip

Since Sudden Dread and Diamond-Bladed Spin Kick damage over time effects do not stack with each other, I (and many others) believe these powers sharing a cooldown isn't really necessary. This is only hindering hybrid build options, which should be opened up more since there really isn't much room to actually hybrid. Giving Mental access to Show Off isn't that big of a deal as the defense boost isn't overwhelming or game breaking, especially since Mental scales off of Dodge and Deflect. At best this would be a little extra minor survivability or help compensate a little bit for Cerebro. Giving Diamond access to Astral whip isn't that big of a deal because the vulnerability from this doesn't stack with normal vulnerability. You would gain a 5% damage increase to mental powers, which wouldn't be much because you would be mostly physical/diamond anyway.

And still, either spec would have to sacrifice something to use these powers anyway, which is enough to not lock them out with shared cooldowns. I can only see this as beneficial for people who want to run more hybrid setups instead of 95% Mental, or 95% Diamond.

  • Remove the shared cooldowns between Show Off and Astral Whip

Speaking of Show Off, another possible change suggested for it:

  • Remove 1,275 Defense rating buff
  • Add 10% damage to Diamond Powers for 8s

The reason for this, again, is to remove some of the unnecessary free damage reduction in her kit in favor of some more damage. With her defense to offensive scaling before, it was already giving 5% or so damage. However, if only 5% damage increase is given while shaving off the Defense rating, it would feel like just a flat nerf. That is why the 10% damage increase was suggested. Sacrifice Defense for more damage.

Diamond Armor

Before Emma's review, her Diamond Armor did not reset every time she changed zones or instances. Now it resets with nearly every doorway used which is frustrating. Also, some people still want to turn to Diamond in hubs, which is no longer possible.

  • Fix Diamond Armor so it no longer resets with every zone change, instance change, or doorway you go through.
  • Allow Show Off to be used in hubs to change yourself to Diamond. Lustrous Lunge can be used to revert to non Diamond form. After all, if Emma wants to Show Off and shine bright like a Diamond, why not let her? Everyone is happy.

Defense Scaling

Some of the proposed changes above (namely removing the 50% defense steroid from Diamond Heart) should be enough to not make defense to damage scaling out of control. Maybe 1 to 250 was a bit to good, but 1 to 500 is too poor. At the very least, increase her scaling a bit again, but also increase her base damage by a little too. This should hopefully make her damage scale better with offensive gearing/omegas, but not leave her in a poor state if you gear defensively.

  • Increase her scaling ratio from 1 every 500 to 1 every 300. Since a lot of her base free Defense is suggested to be cut out of her kit, it shouldn't be as over the top as it was before (hopefully). Of course, if it is still outperforming at this point, monitor and adjust as needed. I would rather see a ratio decrease and base damage increase instead of just a flat nerf to her ratio.

  • Increase base damage of Diamond powers by 5% to start, and monitor/adjust as needed. 5% may not be enough, or it may. We'll have to see with testing. Either way, the only way I can see to balance out defensive scaling if stacking defense is superior that offensive gearing, is to reduce the scaling and increase base damage so offensive items have more of an impact offensively (which they should). That said, having unique itemization and being able to actually finally use defensive gearing without it being "trash" is a nice thing to have.

Telepathic Mastery

Emma used to have Mental Cloaking as a means to hide herself from enemies in a pinch. Being that it no longer exists, the active crowd control break of Telepathic Mastery would be a good place to put in short term stealth. Since Force of Will also has an additional component to the active with a taunt, why not put this functionality back on Telepathic Mastery?

  • Add stealth to Telepathic Mastery (same duration as crowd control break)

Force of Will

Part of Emma's passive damage rating comes from being the target of enemies. With Telepathic Mastery, it's very easy to gain that passive situational damage because mobs rarely target you anyway with the way mob aggro works. Being at range and out of sight/out of mind, you have that passive situational damage almost always. With Force of Will, however, you have it almost never. Currently mobs seem to prioritize NPCs, and anyone closer to them who has dealt damage. If you have a melee team up, minion, or are surrounded by other people it is hard to get that situational damage from Force of Will if you are playing Emma as Diamond or Hybrid. Or if you are by yourself, using Unlock Potential is strictly a DPS loss because you spend your entire time chasing the mob, AND you lose your "targeted" damage.

Taunt is a crowd control effect which can, and does, get resisted and flat out ignored very often. So if half of Emma's passive damage is situational and can never be reliably maintained, why not give a way to optionally use it?

  • Make the Taunt effect of the Force of Will active be unable to be resisted.

  • Potentially add an audio component to this. Emma is very good at cutting people with her words, and as she says, "Life's a b*tch and so am I". Well, why not make her sound like one when she is getting a mob's attention? You know, actually TAUNT them? She is really fun to listen to, and I can't get enough of her quips and verbal jabs at others. Maybe not everyone would like it, maybe they would. This is an optional power after all. Either way, just a fun suggestion more than anything.

Diamond-Bladed Spin Kick

Currently it does not actually apply Vulnerability. It only applies the graphic component part of the time but never increases the damage.

  • Fix the Vulnerability application so it gives a proper damage increase.

Kneel Before Me

When I use this power, often times bosses will just nonchalantly walk out of it or dash out if it at the beginning and I will completely miss them while being helplessly animation locked for 3 seconds. Also, I can still be knocked out of my signature by crowd control effects like knockbacks or stuns. This is frustrating in both cases and if it can be remedied that would be awesome. If not I guess we will just have to deal with it.

  • Add an irresistible short term immobilize at the start of the power to prevent bosses from just casually strolling out of the Area of Effect due to delayed reactions. Or fix the Kneel effect so it immediately stops what a boss is doing and forces them to Kneel.
  • Emma is supposed to be Invulnerable during the duration of this power, yes she is still getting knocked out of her sig with CC effects. I know it's easier said than done, but maybe try to investigate the cause? I think part of the root problem is some bosses like Crossbones and Ultron completely ignore "Immune to crowd control" status and will knock you back an entire screen or more regardless if you are supposed to be immune. I believe there are some other boss powers that behave this way as well.

Power Icons

Currently her icons for her new powers "Running in Heels", "The True Queen", "Show Off", "Astral Whip", and "Psychic Spear" do not match the rest of her older icons. This makes for an awkward looking power bar when the icons don't match. The flavour and color scheme are remarkably different. "The True Queen" and "Psychic Spear" especially because they are blurry and lack the clarity of her other icons. Comparatively, they look like they are low resolution images scaled up.

  • Rework her new icons to match her old ones.

  • Rework her old icons to match her new ones.

End of suggestions

I believe that is it. Off the top of my head I can't think of anything else. I hope you'll take some of these suggestions in to consideration. At the very least, if you could let us know the status of the shared cooldowns between Astral Whip and Show Off, that would be much appreciated.

I hope to hear back from you to get your thoughts and opinions on the suggestions. If not, I guess at least I tried. After all, you miss every shot you don't take right?

The work on this is just unreal. Gorgeous, stunning, fun. I will definitely buy.

This being said, I, personally, would have rather seen Gen X executive realness, or phalanx covenant green unitard with 90's prom hair.

So happy to have a new costume. So glad the costume isn't hippy Emma. Sad it's not one of her more iconic looks.

But the Dink made this absolutely gorgeous. Fantastic work.

I am specced for diamond. I am pretty much dead on MadRussian's build. 10K 69/80.

First off, I have a problem with Diamond Mind. It doesn't regenerate spirit ever. I have so much strength at this point that spirit is almost never a factor but I am certain that it doesn't work for me. Strangely enough, Unlock Potential used to give me an almost full bar of spirit from zero when I activated it but that hasn't happened in a couple of weeks. No, I'm not mixing that up with her sig. But her sig gives me almost no spirit anyway.

Her sig misses most of the time. I suppose it could be landing and not showing the big number but I doubt that very much. I try standing right on top of them, as far back as possible, somewhere in between and I only have about a 30% chance of it landing. That's not counting when I fat finger it and face the wrong way or they suddenly teleport away. I'm talking, in position, tank and spank, zilch. This happens to me with other sigs too. I know that some of them require a little more precision to land consistently and that's fine but others fizzle on me too. None of them miss like Emma's does though. For me anyway. Again, same position, stationary target, 100 times in a row, probably about 30% chance to land.

It's not lag. I get like 30 ping. It's not frame rate. I have a fantastic system and even with 6 bosses and spells spamming everywhere I get 40 fps. In a solo terminal it's off the charts.

Also, it didn't seem to hit Surtur twice about an hour ago in Red Musp.

Another thing is the tooltips. I'm pretty sure that I'm not bugged but Of the 4 skills that I have that are affected by defense, three show the %increase as 0%. The true queen shows me at 31.6%. I'm pretty sure that's a tooltip bug but I couldn't find any mention of it in any of the bug threads.

And I have to ask a dumb question. Diamond Form and Diamond Heart have me confused. Let's see if I understand it right. To activate Diamond Form you have to be out of a hub and hit Diamond Mind. That gives you all those passive defensive stats. I see no buff in the buff window and she graphically remains in a diamond state so I assume that she stays in diamond form until she zones or possibly dies. She never dies so I can't really tell. If I hit Diamond Mind again, I go into Diamond Heart which puts me in stealth and regens me for 3 seconds. I'm pretty sure that I have something wrong here because I just went from Avenger's Tower into ICP, hit Diamond Mind, it put me into stealth but didn't turn me into a diamond. I clicked a med kit though, went ivuln and now I'm a diamond.

Does anyone actually document the actual mechanics of all of the skills for stuff in the game? I have looked at several Wikis but none of the ones I've read have much in them. And some of you seem to know every little detail about everything in this game. I almost feel like there is a big fat wealth of knowledge me senile brain isn't finding.

This past weekend I went to Dallas for the Fan Expo and it was awesome! My first con event and I met several of my all-time favorite voice actors. Kari Wahlgren, Jennifer Hale, Steve Blum, and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn to name a few. They were all very lovely and it was great to hear and see them in person. I just wish Kari was cosplaying as Emma Frost and spoke with her accent, and my life would have been complete :)

So when I prestiged my Emma I managed to get this screenshot of Emma in game. Black Cat wanted to make an entrance, but Emma had to show her how it's really done.

Life's a B****, and so are Mini-Bosses

Most enemies nowadays aren't really worth dominating and using as a minion. Most have pretty bad AI and mechanics. Many are worse than the Cyclops pet from the Locket of the Lords Cardinal.

Suggestion: Let Emma Frost dominate mini-bosses. They would act like an actual summon pet that Magik can summon or Groot, summoned by Rocket Raccoon. They all seem pretty aggressive. They would all be yellow elite enemies anyways if the mini-boss wasn't initially introduced in the Danger Room. Mini-boss domination would make the whole minion mechanic Emma has much more fun. I can't see them being much more powerful than the already weak trash and elites. Not mention this should be fairly easy to implement.

Hey all! I was just wondering if there are any really decent builds for emma that are more hybrid? Like using half mental half diamond powers? For example i love her mental build, but i also love show off and punching them in the face! Thanks in advance!
